There are many different types of risers out there and they can all have different uses. When you need to buy new risers for your music program, how do you decide what ones are right for you?

First and foremost, the most important thing is to make sure you’re getting your risers from a reputable manufacturer. This will help to ensure that they’re safe and durable.

Now, here are three things to know before buying your risers.

What type of riser do you need?

There are three primary types of risers. They are standing choir risers, seated choir risers, and band risers. When considering what to buy, you need to consider the needs of your program.

The difference between a seated choir and band riser is that the band riser has deeper treads.

How much storage space do you have?

Different risers have different storage needs which is why it’s important to know how much space you have available in your facility. Demountable style risers, as seen in the photo below, usually store more compactly than a riser that has all its parts mounted to the frame.

Will you be moving your risers throughout the building?

If you’re going to be transporting your risers throughout the building to different rooms you need ones that move easily. The best option, as far as standing choir risers go, is one that has all of it’s parts mounted to the frame. This option would be the easiest for moving from room to room and setting up very quickly.

For seated risers, they can usually still be set-up quickly and can be moved with a transport cart.

Conclusion

Before making a final decision, it’s best to consult with an expert to make sure you’re getting the best risers that will meet the needs of your program now and into the future.
