4 Things Music Educators can be Thankful for this Year
November 25, 2020
As Thanksgiving is quickly approaching in the United States, we wanted to take some time to slow down and think of the things to be thankful for this year as a music educator.
Students
First and foremost, you can be thankful for your students. They’re probably one of the reasons you got into teaching in the first place, in addition to your love of music. Our current landscape doesn’t change the fact that students want to learn and grow as musicians. We should be happy when they express that desire.
Community
Community is still important. Your community of parents and other educators can provide tremendous value to your program even this year. It’s important to remain thankful for those who remain invested in the program and your students to help them be the best that they can.
The Opportunity to Dream
For some us, this year has provided a bit more down time than normal. This may have given you an opportunity to dream about your program to come up with ideas you wouldn’t have thought about in prior years. Some creative ideas have come out of this year, including virtual choirs.
We’re sure there are many great ideas still out there that just haven’t been executed yet or maybe your idea requires us getting back to normal before you can do it.
Hope for the Future
Going hand in hand with the previous point, we can have hope in the future. Maybe you have a new idea that you can’t wait to try or maybe you’ve learned new things over the past few months that will benefit your program for years to come.
No matter your situation, make sure you support others in your community, invest in your students, and keep dreaming about ways to make your program even better.
