Lincoln High School’s New Orchestra Shell
Lincoln High School’s New Orchestra Shell
January 13, 2021
Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan is part of the Lincoln Consolidated School District. In late 2019, they were finally able to fulfill their dreams and have a new orchestra shell that was made for the space completed that finished off their Performing Arts Center.
When the space was originally built, it was designed to have a shell like this, but budget constraints limited their ability to get all new equipment. The new facility used the portable shell from their old auditorium as a stop gap until they could replace it with what they really needed to make the space functional.
Their Performing Arts Center is used primarily for school district events. They host concerts by the choirs and bands from Lincoln High School and Lincoln Middle School. They also host three theatre productions each year; one a musical, one a non-musical play, and one a short competition show, along with numerous assemblies for students at the high school each year. Meetings with large groups of parents also take place here.
On the community side, their Community Education Program uses it for dance recitals and other outside groups rent the space when it’s available. Needless to say, it gets a lot of use which is why durability and flexibility are incredibly important.
The most important features they were looking for during the decision-making process was having something that matched the existing finishes in the auditorium and was sized properly for their large stage and proscenium arch. It also needed to provide plenty of access to the back-stage area when in place, so that instruments as large as a grand piano could be moved back and forth.
They made the decision to choose StageRight because of our reputation and because we were a Michigan company. The specific product they purchased was the Opus II Concert Acoustic Shell.
The installation process for this was smooth. A team of three people worked over the course of a week to assemble everything onsite. They then walked the Lincoln High School team through the process of using the system. Lincoln High School is happy with the results and we’d like to thank them for allowing us to be part of their success!
