Purpose Built vs. General Use Staging
Purpose Built vs. General Use Staging

October 24, 2023
Are you buying your portable stage for a specific purpose or general use? Different venues and spaces may have different applications. It’s important to know the distinction between the two and determine the correct approach for your situation.
Purpose-Built Staging
Portable staging that’s purpose-built is designed for one specific use. This doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have any reconfigurability to it, but it may be more limited than something that’s designed for a wide range of uses.
This is the approach you’ll want to take if you’re only ever using the stage one way. You don’t need all the bells and whistles.
A good example of this is a school who needs a graduation stage that will occasionally be used for other similar ceremonies or events. It’s going to be used relatively the same way every time.
General Staging
A general staging solution is able to be set-up in a variety of different configurations depending on the specific situation. It can be reconfigured to meet the needs of different events. This could even mean that it can be tiered one day and a single level the next. The opportunities are virtually endless.

When purchasing a solution like this, it’s important to convey what your requirements are going to be ahead of time, so you have all the components you’re going to need. You can also add additional pieces to your inventory over time.
A good example of this would be a production company. They have a very wide range of events and productions that they need to supply equipment for.
Another example would be a music venue that has multiple performance areas in different rooms or even outside. If they use the same equipment throughout the facility, they’ll need something general for the different applications.
One of the keys here is the staging needs to be easy to set-up to help minimize changeover time.
Conclusion
The difference here is pretty straightforward. Purpose-built staging is used for a specific purpose and the facility typically won’t deviate much from that.
General use staging can be used for a wide range of applications and the size, height, and configurations available with it will depend on the certain components you have.
General use staging will also have more complexities because of the added opportunities it provides.
