The University of Vermont

seating riser

April 28, 2022

The University of Vermont, located in Burlington, Vermont, was founded in 1791 and is one of the oldest universities in the United States.

Recently, they made the decision to add a portable seating system to their inventory. The reason for this was because of the addition of a new space. They were integrating in an old elementary school and would be using a multi-purpose cafetorium room for their productions.

We had a chance to talk to Bert Crosby, Production Manager for the University of Vermont, about this project.

As they started this process, the features that were most important to them were having the flexibility to be set-up in different configurations as they needed, being able to store compactly, and having double-sided decks.

Bert already knew about StageRight and the option for double-sided decks through his time previously working for another Performing Arts Center that had StageRight equipment. His main reason for choosing StageRight was because of that familiarity and knowing the product was easy to set-up and would provide the flexibility they needed.

The specific products they ended up purchasing for the project were our Black Box Theatre Seating Risers built with Z-800 and ZHD/ML Supports as well as Double-Sided Decks. They also have different accessories, like guardrails, as you can see in the photo above.

Their system can be set up into four different configurations, up to six levels high, and has a seating capacity of 124 with their primary set-up.

The process from order, to delivery, to installation was smooth and the service was great even with a minor issue that was remedied on-site. Bert worked with Kip Weis and also worked with representatives from the StageRight Project Management and Installation teams.

During the installation process, the system was set up into all four configurations. The University of Vermont won’t be using all four configurations all the time. They’ll only use one or two of them per year, but proper planning and preparation is key.

Previously, in another space, the University of Vermont was using 2 X 4 platforms for Dance Performances. Needless to say, this new seating riser system is an upgrade from what they had and looks much more professional.

The University of Vermont is happy with their new seating riser and it provides the flexibility, ease-of-use, and compact storage that their new space requires.

We’d like to thank Bert Crosby and the entire team for allowing us to be part of their success!
